Oscar inspired cakes

For your cake design, choose an element from your inspiration board, whether it's your color combination, your motif, or the flowers from your bouquets. Wedding cake icings are generally butter cream or fondant. Butter cream does taste better, but may melt under some circumstances, as in an outdoor warm weather wedding. Fondant is easily shaped and trimmed and very neat looking as in the cake above.
For your details, bakers today can form just about anything from gum paste (an edible pliable sugar dough) and add those designs to your cake to dress it up.
You can always use real flowers too, which may end up more economical, since the art of making gum paste flowers is time consuming.
The best part of choosing your cake though is the tasting! There are so many different flavors available, so find your favorite and enjoy!

Oscar inspired florals

here are the beautiful flowers to go with your Oscar inspired purple palette...

Oscar inspired palette

I thought the orchid gown by designer Rodarte that Natalie Portman wore at the Oscar's was a gorgeous color! As was the similar color that Alicia Keyes wore by Armani Prive.
I immediately thought what a beautiful color option for your bridesmaids, as it looks good on every skin tone, and not to mention goes fabulously with so many flowers. Here are a few purple variations, top left Amsale, left Lazaro, lower left J. Crew and below with the flower accent Lazaro

Inspiration board 2

Here is another inspiration board, this one for a spring wedding done in a palette of blue and white , with touches of a natural tan color, like the sea and the sand at the beach. The table florals were beautiful blue and white hydrangeas, white roses, with a touch of green blupernum, in little blue beach pails. The cake was decorated with edible sugar "sand" and vanilla and chocolate candy seashells. All perfect for a sunny Kiawah Island, South Carolina seaside reception. The labels on the beach candle favors, lower left corner, are from a great online source my wedding labels
They offer custom printing of sticky labels, tie-on's and so much more!
The blue pails and seashell place cards we found on sale at our local Pottery Barn
store.

Inspiration board

When planning your wedding details it's a great idea to do an inspiration board, similar to a "storyboard", like a film producer would do, but with images only. Choose your color palette, using no more than 3 colors. Consider your reception space when picking your colors for the best overall look for your event. A great way to see how colors work together is to go to your local home improvement store and peruse the paint chips. Gather all your possible combination's, keeping in mind using different shades of the same color, analogous colors (next to each other on the color wheel) or complimentary colors (opposite each other).Think of the environment for your wedding day, the location, the season and the formality of the venue. Once you have decided on a palette, go with it! Repeat your colors in every detail beginning with the "save the date" card, on through to the invitations, dresses, flowers, cake, linens and favors.
Another favorite of mine is to design a "motif" and repeat it.
Vern Yip, of HGTV, favors using this idea in his interior design. My associates at WED can help you design a monogram or a graphic element unique to you and your groom. Note the K&R graphic below that we repeated on all the printed material, the direction sign and even the koozies for the pre-wedding festivities. The color palette here was chocolate brown and 2 different shades of green, seen in the invitation and envelope. choosing the perfect gown

When my daughter Kelly got engaged, still in college, we knew it would be two years before she would be married. We had all the time in the world to plan and shop. We would go into bridal shops wherever we traveled to. By the time she was ready to "commit" to the dress, we had been to 17 bridal shops in the state of Georgia. Yes, there are that many! We found beautiful gowns in every one that looked great on her, but we still had time, so we kept looking. Now, I'm not saying you have to look at that many dresses to know, but it actually was fun! She tried on all the different styles, necklines and sleeves, in beaded, lace and plain. It was when we came to that last salon, she found "the one". She knew by then what she didn't want and what style she was after. She walked out in her gown and it was perfect for her! The perfect line for her body, the right amount of lace that she wanted, she wore the dress and it made her look beautiful. I guess that's my point... all wedding dresses are beautiful, you have to find the one that fits you, your taste, your style, your personality, and you will feel like a beautiful bride!
below are 3 new top designer gowns, just a sample from their 2009 collections...
